Do You know Jesus?

Jesus is arguably the most influential person in human history. The Bible teaches, though, that he was more than that. The book of Isaiah prophesied His arrival more than 700 years before it happened. So what is knowing Jesus all about? We’ve heard terms like grace, mercy, and forgiveness of sins. But what do they really mean?

Everyone on the planet has one thing in common. This commonality doesn’t depend on language, race, color, creed, gender, or anything else we can think of. “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23 — NIV)” Yes — it’s true — you, me, the U.S. President, and the Pope have all sinned. No one escapes this. It is a reality.

Our sin — whether consciously or unconsciously committed — separates us from a God that desperately loves us. He loves us so much that He made a way for us to connect with Him. That way is through His Son, Jesus.

    • …I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 — NIV)
    • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 — NIV)

“But I’m a good person! I haven’t done anything remotely wrong.” Well…the Bible deals with that too.

      • All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. (Isaiah 64:6 — NIV)
      • For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9 — NIV)

In order to connect with God our sins must be paid for. Every one of us has to pay God’s price for our sins. And the price is really steep.

      • For the wages of sin is death…(Romans 6:23 — NIV)
      • In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (Hebrews 9:22– NIV)

But there is another way. God provided a way for us to connect with Him and have the price for our sins paid for by another. Remember the verses above about God giving His Son? Well…that was Jesus. And he actually paid the price for us. All we have to do is accept this gift. “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 — NIV)” It really is that easy. And the cool thing is that you don’t have to come with all the answers. All you have to do is believe. The Bible calls it ‘being saved’.

      • If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 — NIV)
      • If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 — NIV)

That’s really all it takes. And when you do that…God promises that your sins are paid for. How? Jesus died for them. He paid the price for you, me, and every other person on the planet. It only takes one simple sincere prayer to be sure that you know Jesus and that your sins (the things that separate you from God) are forgiven. Simply say this prayer loud enough for yourself to hear it — believing that God heard you — and He does the rest.

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for loving me. Thank You for reaching out to me. And today, Jesus, I’m reaching back. I understand that I am a sinner and separated from You. I am asking for forgiveness of those sins and for You to be my sin-bearer. Thank You for paying the price for me. And now I boldly say, with my new faith, I am forgiven…born again…saved. And I’ll never, never, never be the same again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Congratulations! Now you know Jesus. If you have prayed that prayer and accepted Jesus into your life…please leave a comment and let me know. I recommend that you find a good, Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church to attend so you can learn more about life in Christ. And let me be the first to welcome you to God’s family.
